Mine Gas Plant Upgrades

PROJECT SUMMARY

PPM were engaged to automate plant control and add new vacuum pumps.

• The existing gas plant capacity and control system required a major integrated automation upgrade to the brownfield plant and was successfully managed without unplanned stoppages.
• The project was challenging, involving installation of buried pipelines under public roads, connection to operating power generation plants, gas flares, automated valves, gas analysers, PLC and HMI and multiple field sensors.
• The key to success was to complete a thoroughly documented system functional design specification (FDS), in absence of existing information, followed by offline dynamic simulation and testing of the process and equipment.
• The Plant startup was exceptionally smooth considering the constraints of mine operation and delivered functionality has exceeded user expectations.
